Traditionally designed and made wooden trug by Burgon & Ball. Each slat is hand-shaped and held firmly in place by solid brass pins. Strong handles extend completely around the body of the trug for added strength.

What's traditional?


The trug as we know it was designed by Thomas Smith in Sussex in the 1820s. He based his design on the 'trog', a sold wood coracle shaped vessel that had been used for centuries in the area to measure grains. Smith used chestnut and willow to make his new trug.

Our trug is from Burgon & Ball who have been manufacturing shears and gardening tools in Sheffield since 1730.
