What's traditional?

The history of wood turning is as old as time - man first turned wood with a pole lathe thousands of years ago, Leonardo da Vinci invented a treadle lathe in about 1500 and mechanised lathes arrived in the early 1900s.

Wooden bowls were widely used for eating in the Middle Ages but their use declined as china and pottery became more widely available.
